Alcohol sales could be a step closer to being allowed at Beaver Stadium.
The Penn State athletics department on Monday presented a proposal to the university’s Trustees Committee on Legal and Compliance that would “[expand] the sale of alcohol in Beaver Stadium”. Currently, alcohol sales are limited to stadium club and suite levels, but not the general public.
“All patrons 21 and older who purchase alcohol will be required to show proper identification to obtain a wristband,” Penn State said in a press release. “Further, all IDs will be scanned to confirm they are legitimate.”
The proposal passed by a 6-1 vote. However, as StateCollege.com’s Geoff Rushton notes, the university’s Board of Trustees is set to vote on the plan on Sept. 23.
“If approved, Penn State would join eight other current Big Ten schools successfully sell beer and/or wine in public areas at its home football games and approximately half of the schools in Power 5 conferences selling beer and/or wine at their home football games this fall,” the press release continued.
