Ryan Day expresses unhappiness with Ohio State penalties: ‘Inexcusable’

Ohio State cruised past Arkansas State and improved its record to 2-0 in 2022. The Buckeyes opened up a 24-9 halftime lead, never looking back in the first-ever meeting on the gridiron between the 2 programs.
But it wasn’t without its trouble spots, though, specifically penalties. The Buckeyes were whistled for 9 penalties for 85 yards, and for a team that hopes to be in the national championship discussion, those need to be avoided. It was a topic that came up during Ryan Day’s weekly radio spot on 97.1 the Fan in Columbus, according to Eleven Warriors.
Day was particularly displeased with the penalties that were fully within Ohio State’s control, such as the unsportsmanlike conduct penalties assessed to Xavier Johnson and Taron Vincent and the four offsides penalties against Buckeye defensive linemen.
“Any time you have a penalty that you can control, especially pre-snap, those are the ones that are inexcusable…”There’s certain things that happen, playing hard, there’s going to be penalties, but there’s some that are controllable, and those are the ones who got to do a better job with.”
Ohio State and Toledo kick off from Ohio Stadium on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. ET, with the game to be televised on FOX. We’ll see if the penalties can be cut down and if the Buckeyes can take a fully disciplined approach.
