Former Buckeye star Troy Smith pushing for medical marijuana dispensary in Ohio

Troy Smith is now part of a different kind of movement.
The former Ohio State star and 2006 Heisman Trophy winner joined the effort to get medical marijuana dispensaries in Ohio.
According to Tom Knox, Smith teamed up with Ted Ginn Sr., former Cleveland Browns running back Eric Metcalf and businessman Jim Buchanan. Their goal is to open dispensaries in Cleveland, Warrensville Heights, South Euclid or Lakewood:

Smith’s group is just one of 185 applicants for 24 licenses to cultivate marijuana in Ohio.
Knox reported that Smith believes the use of medical marijuana would help college and NFL players after their careers end. Smith attending a hearing in Reynoldsburg, Ohio on Tuesday morning to state his case for the use of dispensaries in Ohio.
Cleveland.com reported that Smith’s post-NFL career opened up his eyes to the idea of medical marijuana industry.
Smith said his own head trauma from years of playing football led him to look into medical marijuana and to pursue a business. Smith said he’s only now beginning to understand how banging his head against other players has affected his daily life.
“Sports is a great thing to watch when you’re snacking on chicken wings, but it’s dead serious we need to pay more attention to it and be more delicate,” Smith said, adding that he is certain medical marijuana can be helpful to people with brain injuries.
Smith played in the NFL for four seasons, and he played in the CFL until 2014. He’s still the last B1G player to win the Heisman Trophy.
