Jim Harbaugh’s extended quarterback competition by starting Cade McNamara and JJ McCarthy has resulted in McCarthy getting the starting job after his standout performance in Week 2 against Hawai’i.
Both QBs played in the Hawaii game. The home Michigan crowd booed during McNamara’s appearance, which upset one of his offensive linemen.
Angelique Chengelis of The Detroit News shared comments from Wolverines OL Ryan Hayes, who called the boos “ridiculous.”
Ryan Hayes on boos directed at McNamara last Saturday: “We hate that. We would hate for any of our brothers to get booed. That’s pretty ridiculous for our stadium to do that to one of our players who’s a captain and led us to all those victories last year.”

Hayes also shared that McNamara is handling the QB decision well and is still seen as a captain by his U-M teammates.
Asked LT Ryan Hayes how Cade McNamara is handling QB situation: “We all love Cade. He’s our captain still. He’s come into the building with a smile on his face every day. He’s going to do what he can. We all still look at him as a captain. He hasn’t changed his outlook at all.”
