He extended his starts streak to 14 games in Week 2. Newsome has been a mainstay on defense for the Cornhuskers and will continue to be a factor as Mickey Joseph takes over the program.
Illinois has been treated with great performances in the secondary from Martin and Witherspoon. Martin has recorded 11 solo tackles and a total of 15 tackles. He has 5 pass deflections in 3 games. Martin, a senior, has helped Illinois’ secondary.
Not only does Illinois have Martin, but the Fighting Illini also have Witherspoon. In 3 games, Witherspoon has recorded 15 total tackles, 1 interception, and 6 pass deflections. Witherspoon has been a hawk in the secondary for Illinois. In Week 2, Witherspoon recorded 7 tackles and he broke up 3 passes.
These 3 B1G defensive backs have been outstanding in the 1st month of the season. They will look to prevent any receiver from scoring.
