A Nebraska high school made the tough decision to cancel the remainder of its 2022 football season due to an overwhelming amount of injuries and inadequate number of players to compete.
The decision was made regarding Lincoln North High School late Friday afternoon.
“We understand there may be disappointment behind this decision,” said JJ Toczek, athletic and activities director at LPS, via KSNB Hastings. “The Falcons have experienced a number of injuries and we are unsure about timelines for when students will be able to return. Therefore, out of an abundance of caution and with student safety as our focus, we’ve decided to forfeit the remainder of the Northwest varsity football games.”
The team is made up of 75 players, 15 of which are currently suffering from an injury or illness. The remaining 60 are nearly 65% freshmen with zero seniors. Most do not have varsity experience.
The freshmen, junior varsity and reserve levels will continue play as normal for the remainder of the season.
