Just a week after Scott Frost’s firing, the Nebraska Cornhuskers continue their downward spiral after tying the largest deficit in the all-time series against Oklahoma in a 49-14 beating.
The last time they had such a loss to the Sooners was in 1990, where Oklahoma won 45-10. In 43 games, the Sooners 49 points are the most that they have ever scored in the all-time series. The Cornhuskers gave up 580 yards on defense compared to having just 327 yards on offense.
Nebraska has now dropped 19 straight games to top-25 opponents, and the Cornhuskers move to 1-3 on the season after earlier losses to Northwestern and Georgia Southern. The schedule doesn’t get much better looking forward as Nebraska is set to enter Big Ten play.
The Nebraska-Oklahoma rivalry will resume in 2029 as the trajectory of the 2 programs continues to go in opposite directions. The Cornhuskers will attempt a rebound next week against Indiana to kick off Big Ten action.
Unmentioned from yesterday: The 35-point margin in the Oklahoma loss for tied for the largest for Nebraska in the series since 1968. (1990, also 35, 45-10 in the Mickey Joseph game)
