Marcus Lewis is going back home.

After he came to College Park for a weekend visit, the former Florida State safety and former four-star recruit announced that he’s returning to the DMV to continue his career at Maryland:

Due to NCAA transfer rules, Lewis will have to sit the 2017 season. He’ll have two years of eligibility left.

The former Gonzaga (Washington DC) star was the No. 2 recruit in DC and the No. 140 player overall in the 2015 class. The 6-1 cornerback was an Under Armour All-America selection.

At FSU, Lewis appeared in eight games in 2016 and four games as a true freshman in 2015. He manned the “star” cornerback spot, where his versatility was on display.

He missed the final games of 2016 with an injury, but he still finished with 21 tackles, two pass breakups, one interception, one tackle for loss and one fumble recovery.

He’ll look to solidify a more permanent role in College Park. Lewis will have the chance to compete alongside a suddenly loaded young secondary:
