Brittany Wagner, star of “Last Chance U,” has a new job in Michigan

Brittany Wagner is taking her academic advising talents north. Sort of.
Wagner, who became a household name thanks to her starring role in the popular Netflix show “Last Chance U,” has a new job.
Wagner was hired as a special academic consultant and Madison Heights Madison High in Michigan. She’ll mostly consult with teachers and students remotely, but she’ll occasionally make trips to M.H. Madison.
Located 45 minutes from Ann Arbor and roughly 80 minutes from East Lansing, M.H. Madison has similar issues as East Mississippi Community College, where Wagner spent the previous eight years.
Superintendent of Madison District Public Schools Randy Speck said that he watched “Last Chance U” and saw how valuable Wagner’s expertise could be at a place like M.H. Madison.
“Our kids are coming from Detroit, Madison Heights, Hazel Park, Warren and some of our kids are going through some different challenges and obstacles,” Speck told the Detroit News. “One of the things that spoke to me was (Wagner’s) background isn’t necessarily the same as these kids, but she found a way to connect with them and it’s because she cares and genuinely and authentically wants to see them do well.”
Wagner starred in the first two seasons of “Last Chance U,” which is based in Scooba, Miss. At EMCC, Wagner’s often difficult job consisted of getting student-athletes academically eligible to receive FBS scholarships.
After eight years at EMCC, she left her position to start her own company called, “10 Thousand Pencils.” The company offers academic services to at-risk student-athletes across America.
At M.H. Madison, however, she’ll advise all students, not just student-athletes. The financial logistics of Wagner’s new position are unknown.
The second season of “Last Chance U” came out on Netflix on July 21.
