Indiana star says he’s ‘glad’ Kofi Cockburn doesn’t play college basketball anymore

Kofi Cockburn was a star during his time at Illinois. Now, he’ll hope to find a home at the next level, whether it be NBA, G-League, or overseas.
Some fans around the B1G aren’t happy with Cockburn’s departure. Indiana star forward Trayce Jackson-Davis isn’t one of them. When asked if he would miss facing off against Cockburn, the 6-9, 245-pound Hoosier politely said no.
Then again, the response was honest and a tad humorous.

Last season, the 7-foot center averaged 20.9 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 30.7 minutes per game. He was 59.3% from the field goal range and never recorded a 3-point shot. For his career, Cockburn averaged 17.2 points, 9.6 rebounds, and was 59.6% from the field goal range.
The Illini would go on to finish the 2021-22 season with a 23-10 record and finishing No. 19 in the country. Illinois would be eliminated in the second round of the NCAA tournament in a 68-53 loss to No. 5 seed Houston.
Indiana finished last season under Mike Woodson with a 21-14 record. The Hoosiers were eliminated in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in an 82-53 loss to Saint Mary’s. The Hoosiers kick off their new season at Assembly Hall on Nov. 7 against Morehead State.
