A former Rutgers linebacker has been charged with murder in a revenge killing, according to a report from MLive.com

Lester “L.J.” Liston, Jr. is charged with killing a Flint, Mich. man on July 30. The murder was connected to another killing according to reports, but no other details were provided.

Liston was a member of the Scarlet Knights’ football team in 2013 and 2014, serving mostly as a backup linebacker. He was dismissed from the program in 2015 but Rutgers didn’t provide further details. In those two seasons, he totaled 31 tackles.

In addition to the murder charge, Liston also faces charges of felony firearm, possession with intent to deliver cocaine of less than 50 grams and careless discharge of a firearm causing injury or death. He is currently being held without bail and is due to appear in court on Aug. 17.

According to reports, Liston had several issues while at Rutgers, including have numerous heated arguments with then-linebackers coach Bob Fraser. He also failed a preseason conditioning test in 2014 and was suspended for not meeting study hall requirements that same year.
