Ohio State looks to make renovations on Ohio Stadium with the help of the public, says Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith per Cleveland.com. On Thursday, Smith confirmed the athletic department would install maintenance fees on tickets sold at all athletic events starting potentially next year.

“Because we know what’s coming,” Smith said of why the maintenance fee would be implemented now. “We know that our current financial model is not going to be sustainable. So we are constantly always looking at different ways to increase our revenue.”

Smith believes the budget of Ohio State’s athletic department is likely to go up in the future, and part of those increased expenditures could include potential increases in money paid to athletes.

Ohio Stadium has the third-largest stadium capacity in the sport of college football with a capacity of 102,780. Smith said the annual cost of maintenance on Ohio Stadium is around $2.2 to $2.5 million.
