Zach Carpenter spoke to reporters about what kind of injury he has. Indy Star’s Dustin Dopirak reported that Carpenter has a thumb injury.
Carpenter transferred to Indiana from Michigan in 2021, and has appeared against Illinois, Idaho, and Nebraska this season. He played in 5 total games as a Hoosier last season.
Dopirak also asked Carpenter if fans can expect to see him snap the ball again this season. Carpenter’s response was short and sweet.
“We’ll see,” Carpenter said.
It’s IU press conference day. We talked to Zach Carpenter at a roundtable. Said his injury is a thumb but wouldn’t be specific. Asked him if he will be able to snap again this year and he said, “We’ll see.” Was pretty unapologetically dodgy, but there’s your update.

Indiana lost to Nebraska 35-21 as interim HC Mickey Joseph got his first win since taking over for Scott Frost. Indiana is going to need some players to step up on the offensive line if Carpenter is out for an extended time.
The Hoosiers face a tough opponent next in Michigan. The Wolverines are undefeated through Week 5 and head to Bloomington to take on Indiana.
Michigan and Indiana kick off Oct. 8 at noon ET on FOX.
