Northwestern and Colorado are going to meet on the football field for the first time in 50 years. But we still have to wait nearly a decade until the two cross paths.

It was confirmed on Tuesday that the Wildcats and Buffaloes have scheduled a home-and-home series that will happen in 2026 and 2027. The series will be played in Evanston in 2026 and Boulder the following season.

The last time the two programs met on the gridiron was 1978.

Northwestern and Colorado do have one significant tie to each other. Head coach Gary Barnett was the head coach at Northwestern from 1992 through 1998 and was in charge when the Wildcats surged to a B1G title in 1995 and made an appearance in the Rose Bowl.

From 1999 through 2005, Barnett was the head coach at Colorado, posting a 49-38 record in seven seasons with the Buffaloes.
