J.T. Barrett’s path at Ohio State has been particularly unique. As he would tell you, “I’ve practically seen it all.”

That’s what he told Yahoo Sports writer Pete Thamel when the Buckeyes quarterback talked about his career in Columbus. From a freshman starter, to a backup role and now a senior leader, Barrett’s four years at Ohio State have been a winding road. As he prepares for the most important year in his career, he discussed what his life has been like the past three years.

“Some people start at the bottom and skyrocket to the top. Some start at the top and tumble to the bottom,” Barrett told Thamel. “Mine, well, it has been like a roller coaster with the highs and lows.”

Barrett talked about becoming a starter in 2014 after an injury to then-quarterback Braxton Miller left the reigning B1G Offensive Player of the Year sidelined for the season. He highlighted the national championship and how, even though he missed the game with his own ankle injury, he enjoyed every second of the run.

So many topics are highlighted in the interview. And if you’re an Ohio State fan – or just a college football fan – it’s a must-read story. But what have been the most impactful statement Barrett made, he saved for the end.

“Years from now, if people do talk about me or my legacy, I hope people remember me both as a winner and a good dude who cared about people and never wanted to be big time.”

Those are just two qualities people will remember about one of Ohio State’s best quarterbacks.
