FOX analyst RJ Young has revealed his college football tiers in college football heading into Week 6, and there’s an interesting twist to this week’s list.

At the top, Young has a lone team in Tier 1 and another team by itself in Tier 2 as ahead of the pack. The No. 1 Tier is led by Ohio State while Alabama is the team in Tier 2.

The rest of the immediate competitors for the College Football Playoff – Georgia, Michigan and Clemson – landed in Tier 3. Penn State landed in Tier 4 with a trio of other programs.

Those tiers are interesting for a number of reasons. Despite trailing Georgia and Alabama in most of the polls, Young currently has the Buckeyes as the best team in the country after Week 5.

Recent results certainly play a role in that. Ohio State has dominated since the Week 1 win over Notre Dame while Georgia and Alabama have had a couple of close calls.

In Week 5, Kirby Smart’s Bulldogs barely dodged an upset on the road against Missouri. As for Nick Saban and Alabama, the Tide could be without star QB Bryce Young due to a shoulder injury sustained against Arkansas.

We’ll see if these tiers hold up moving forward.
