Greg Gard revealed in a recent interview that he spoke to Jim Leonhard about his new role as interim head coach. Evan Flood of 247Sports put his quote on Twitter.
As Wisconsin fans now know, Leonhard will be the head coach for the remainder of the season while a coaching search is going to take place at Wisconsin. Paul Chryst was let go by the team on Sunday.
Gard stated that he simply told Leonhard to be himself and to trust his gut. This will be a different challenge than what Leonhard is used to. Leonhard has only been the defensive backs coach and defensive coordinator in Madison so far.
“He’s in a very unique situation, difficult situation,” said Gard. “The things I’ve shared with him is be yourself, trust yourself, trust your gut. “He’s as well prepared for this moment as you can be. Now, go do it.”
