Taron Vincent knows that his role may get overlooked, but that doesn’t faze him. He spoke to Bill Rabinowitz of the Columbus Dispatch about playing DT for Ohio State.
The defensive tackle is the anchor of everything the defense does. They play the role of blocking running lanes and shrinking the pocket for opposing quarterbacks.
Vincent knows that, having just 1 solo tackle and 6 total, but he has played a large role on a defense that has allowed just 3.3 yards per carry.
“It’s not the most glamorous position,” Vincent said. “I already know that comes with it. I couldn’t care less. As long as everybody is being successful, the team’s successful, and we’re winning games, that’s all I can ask for.”
The senior defensive tackle is taking the role of a selfless leader who make sacrifices to allow his team to thrive, showing that stats don’t tell the full story in the process.
“It doesn’t bother me,” he said. “I’m starting at Ohio State. We’re No. 3 in the country, so I can’t even be mad about it. I’m doing my part. Nobody can say I’m playing badly. I’m confident in my ability, so it doesn’t faze me.”
Ohio State will look to continue to stay dominant on Saturday as they face Michigan State, who has struggled establishing the run and won’t receive much help doing so from Vincent and the rest of the Buckeye D-line.
