“I’m thankful because this is a great organization and we have a chance to do something special, so for me to be named point guard that’s a blessing,” Dosunmu said in the post game locker room after Tuesday’s 127-104 Bulls win over Milwaukee when informed of coach Billy Donovan’s decision. “I will continue to work hard and take it day by day to get better. Just try to come out swinging from the get go.”
Talk about a big announcement for Dosunmu and the Bulls. The 6-foot-4 Dosunmu was drafted by the franchise with the 2nd pick of the 2nd round in the 2021 NBA Draft. Dosunmu averaged 8.8 points and 3.3 assists per game while shooting 52 percent from the floor in his rookie season.
Dosunmu made 90 starts at Illinois while averaging 16.7 points, 4 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game. He was a 2-time All-B1G media selection in 2020 and 2021. Dosunmu also won the Bob Cousy Award, given annually to the nation’s best point guard, following the 2020-2021 season.
Dosunmu now gets to represent Chicago as its floor leader. The Bulls went 46-36 last season before falling to the Milwaukee Bucks in five games in the first round of the playoffs.
