On Wednesday, former Minnesota head coach Tracy Claeys wrote a letter to the Start Tribune highlighting he would have done somethings differently during his time with the Golden Gophers.

In the letter, Claeys addresses the review released last week that questioned his leadership, primarily concerning the suspensions during his time last fall and the decisions by players to boycott the Holiday Bowl.

Claeys addressed how he got to this point in his life. After that, he explained what he would do differently.

“First and foremost, I would have remained on campus with my team and coaches rather than attend a Holiday Bowl news conference in San Diego,” Claeys wrote.

Claeys went onto say that he would have refrained from using social media to state his support of the team’s decision to boycott the game. He said the message was to complex and important for 140 characters. It generated more questions than it answered and created more problems for Minnesota.

Despite wanting to do things differently, Claeys was still proud of his accomplishments at Minnesota.
