College football rankings: Where every B1G team ranks in the Vegas Power Ratings entering Week 7

College football guru Phil Steele is one of the sport’s most popular analysts for his preseason preview. And each week, Steele offers an inside look as to how those out in Sin City rank all 131 FBS teams per week.

During his time at ESPN, Steele published a weekly column titled “Vegas Power Ratings.” Now independent, Steele maintains connections with sportsbook handicappers at multiple Las Vegas casinos and shares the power rankings on his website.

Entering Week 7, the B1G has been highly praised at the top of the rankings but is missing a bit of pizzazz in the middle. Unlike schools in the Big 12 or SEC, there’s a significant dropoff from those programs listed near the top of the leaderboards to those that would be considered “middle-tier programs.”

Steele’s rankings differ from the AP Top 25 or Coaches Poll. One of the biggest factors in his rankings is location. Steele elects to rank teams based on how they would perform at a neutral site rather than home or away.
