Urban Meyer is always coaching. Maybe it’s not with the Jacksonville Jaguars or Ohio State, but he’s always running through plays in his head.

The FOX Sports analyst recently was seen on the Big Ten Network breaking down the ideal 2-minute offense. One of the biggest factors in pulling off a well-executed formation is knowing your surroundings before the first snap.

“The game is won or lost in the two-minute drill,” Meyer said. This is the mindset as I start the meeting: what’s the need, what’s the time, and what’s the timeouts.“

Meyer on more than 1 occasion has likely used this offensive set to win football games. Hired by Ohio State in 2012, Meyer went 83-9 during his 7 seasons on campus. In all 7 years, he won at least 10 games. The Buckeyes also finished ranked 10 top 6 times, only falling the No. 12 in 2013 after a 12-2 year.

“We need to take it the length of the field to go score, or we need a field goal,” said Meyer. “Second, is the obvious look at the clock. Finally, these are your get-out-of-jail-free cards, your timeouts.”

Ryan Day, Ohio State’s current head coach and Meyer’s former offensive coordinator, might be following a similar offense. Since taking over in 2018, the Buckeyes have gone 40-4, finishing with 10-plus wins in 2 of his 3 full seasons. Currently, the Buckeyes are the favorites to win the B1G title and make the College Football Playoff.
