Last week’s game did not go well for the Nittany Lions. In Ann Arbor, Penn State’s starting quarterback Sean Clifford had one of his worst performances of the year. Clifford just 7 passes on 19 attempts for a total of 120 yards with no touchdowns.
Head Coach James Franklin was asked by Cory Giger of DK Pittsburgh Sports about those who want to see backup quarterback Drew Allar. The true freshman and former 5-star prospect has mainly been used in mop-up duty.
Per the Athletic’s Audrey Snyder:
Many people want to see Drew Allar. What would you say to those people?
"1) That's the wrong message, wrong signal. Sean has earned the right to be on the field." Franklin said they'd love to get Drew on the field to keep developing him (when warranted).

Coach Franklin made it clear where he stands and did his best to reaffirm that Clifford has earned his starting role. This tends to happen when a player begins to struggle and fans typically ask for the next guy in the hope that he’s better.
Allar played in the 4th quarter with the game seemingly out of reach and had a few attempts on the day. On 10 attempts, Allar completed 5 passes and averaged 3.6 yards per completion.
Coach Franklin did mention that he hopes Allar continues to get playing time to help the true freshman develop but only when called for.
