Just a few days before San Diego State opens the 2017 season, ex-Rutgers quarterback Chris Laviano has decided to leave the program. His reason behind the decision is one that might surprise you.

According to NJ.com, Laviano is leaving the Aztecs’ to pursue his goal to play college lacrosse. The former Scarlet Knights quarterback left the program Monday night.

San Diego State head coach Rocky Long wasn’t happy about Laviano’s decision.

“He’s kind of an expert on transferring,” Long told the San Diego Union-Tribune. “I used to get upset with players when they would quit or decide to leave. I don’t anymore. It’s really common now. A lot more common than it was 20 years ago. I must be getting old because the reasons they give you are ridiculous.”

Laviano started 19 games while at Rutgers, throwing for more than 3,000 yards and 21 touchdowns in three seasons. He decided to transfer out of Rutgers after he was shuffled down the depth chart.
