Greg McElroy explains why Ohio State is not No. 1 in his rankings

Greg McElroy recently broke down his top 10 teams during his Always College Football podcast. While McElroy likes what he sees from Ohio State so far, there’s one area he sees that the Buckeyes are still falling a bit short when compared to other teams.

That area is the strength of the schedule during the 6-0 start for Ryan Day’s squad. While McElroy did have Ohio State at No. 4, the Buckeyes will get a better chance to prove their worth down the stretch.

“I think Ohio State is unbelievably good. They’re a juggernaut offensively, they can score with anybody, I think they’ve addressed the problems that plagued them at times last year on defense,” McElroy explained.

“What I also know though is that Ohio State has beaten one team with a winning record, and that team is not that great. That would be Toledo. When your best win is against a MAC team, I’m going to hold that against you.”

Fortunately for the Buckeyes, McElroy pointed to remaining games against Penn State, Maryland and Michigan as areas where Ohio State can improve its strength of schedule. Provided Ryan Day and the Buckeyes win those games, of course.
