ESPN’s dedication and promotion of the first B1G game of the year between Ohio State and Indiana really paid off.
Friday morning, the network announced that Ohio State-Indiana yielded the most successful overnight and streaming results for any Week 1 Thursday night game in history. The game earned a 3.6 overnight rating and had 201,000 streaming viewers in the average minute.
According to ESPN, the overnight results exceeded the previous record by 44 percent and shattered the streaming record by 109 percent.
The Ohio State-Indiana clash was aired on MegaCast with the main production airing on ESPN. There were six additional ways to watch the game, including a “homer’s broadcast” and a coaches screen room. College GameDay also made its way to Bloomington, making its first trip to Indiana’s campus during football season.
Despite trailing 14-13 at halftime, Ohio State posted a 49-21 win over the Hoosiers.
