Kirk Ferentz and Iowa have struggled in 2022, to say the least. But to hear Ferentz talk about the season on Tuesday, he believes things could certainly be worse.
During his weekly press conference, Ferentz reflected on his postgame media availability after losing to Ohio State in blowout fashion. According to Ferentz, the line of questioning on Saturday occasionally felt like an “interrogation.”
Despite that less-than-fun encounter, Ferentz believes things could “be a helluva lot worse.”
Kirk Ferentz complimented his players on how they handled the media on Saturday. Then… said during his line of questioning, he felt he was being interrogated at times on Saturday.

“During the questioning — in some cases, interrogation — on Saturday that I experienced. The one good thing about that: it dawned on me. As bad as it was, it could’ve been worse,” said Ferentz . “I could’ve been that guy (asking questions). I could’ve been that, like had his job and had to act like he did, so yeah, it could be a helluva lot worse. Things aren’t all bad.”
Ferentz’s comments are certainly odd and likely will not be well-received by Hawkeye fans.
After a 10-win season in 2021 and still possessing an elite defensive unit, all most fans want to see is a serviceable offense in Iowa City. But for now, Ferentz is trying to look on the bright side of things, or so it would appear.
