Before Purdue kicked off against Louisville on Saturday night to open the 2017 season, the Boilermakers received a special pregame pep talk from a legend.
Former Boilers quarterback Drew Brees spoke with the team just moments before Purdue’s contest against the No. 16 Cardinals in Lucas Oil Stadium. His message? “You are the new era of Purdue football.”
It was a pretty cool moment in the Boilermakers locker room:

Purdue couldn’t pull off the upset, falling to Louisville 35-28 in Indianapolis. But the message appeared to have an impact. The Boilermakers had a chance to knock off a ranked opponent, something that hasn’t happened too frequently.
Saturday’s game was the first of the Jeff Brohm era. We’ll see if Brees’ message translates to next Friday when the Boilers host Ohio.
