Several players showed that they are worthy to candidate for the Heisman Trophy this season. Baker Mayfield balled out and Josh Rosen led an incredible comeback.

Despite their performances, they do not rank ahead of Penn State running back Saquon Barkley on SI’s Bruce Feldman’s Heisman contender rankings after Week 1.

Here is what Feldman had to say about Barkley’s Week 1 peformance: “The junior was his usually spectacular self, torching Akron for 172 yards on just 14 carries with two going for touchdowns. He also had 54 receiving yards on three catches in a 52–0 romp. He’ll face a Pitt team that held him under 100 rushing yards and beat the Nittany Lions last season.”

As Feldman mentioned, Barkley will face Pitt this Saturday, Sept. 9.
