Casey Thompson left the field on Saturday after being taken down hard by a pair of Illinois defenders.

Thompson, dropping back to pass, was met with a solid Illini pass rush. Defenders Seth Coleman and Johnny Newton drilled Thompson, taking him to the ground.

Thompson’s pass was intercepted by Sydney Brown, later resulting in an Illinois TD. After the play, Thompson was seen holding his right forearm as he left the field.

After halftime, Illinois head coach Mickey Joseph stated that Thompson would not be returning for the second half of the game for the Huskers. Instead, Chubba Purdy will be taking over QB duties from the injured Thompson.

Thompson has played in every game for the Huskers this season since transferring from Texas. Heading into today’s game, Thompson had 1,851 yards passing with 11 touchdowns and 8 interceptions on the season.
