No. 4 Michigan was more than happy to defeat its rivals in Michigan State at home 29-7 in Week 9. Brad Galli of WXYZ Detroit shared the video of the players and coaches of Michigan celebrating with the Paul Bunyan Trophy for the first time since 2019.

In the video, the trophy can be seen sporting a Block M hat, new maize pants and was even seen sporting the “Buffs” of the defensive unit for a minute.

Michigan State had a 7-3 at the end of the first quarter, but the Wolverines outscored their rival 26-0 throughout the game. Wolverines running back Blake Corum had a big game by rushing for 177 yards and a touchdown on 33 carries. He also caught a 2-yard receiving touchdown in the second quarter.

Michigan erases a 2-game losing streak to Michigan State after losing 37-33 in East Lansing last season and 27-24 at home in 2020. The Wolverines previously defeated their rivals 44-10 in 2019.

Michigan now leads the all-time series 72-38-5.

The Wolverines proceed to an overall record of 8-0 (5-0 in B1G play) as they will go on the road to take on Rutgers (4-4; 1-4) in Week 10. Two of the four remaining opponents in the regular season are currently ranked in No. 17 Illinois and No. 2 Ohio State.

We’ll see how Jim Harbaugh’s squad responds moving forward.
