“Of all the guys (on he D-line) he’s got the best combination of speed, power, size and length,” Niemann said.
Van Ness, a sophomore, received high praise from his position coach. Niemann was impressed with the collective attributes of speed, power, size, and length. Prior to his 2nd season at Iowa, he made the switch from defensive tackle to defensive end.
With 1 month left in the season, Niemann revealed that Van Ness will mostly play his snaps at the defensive end position. Niemann expected Van Ness to improve at the position as he gains more experience. Van Ness was still learning the details of the position.
In 2022, Van Ness recorded 4 sacks and 26 total tackles. He had 7.5 tackles for loss in the season. He is tied for the team lead in sacks. He will continue to be one of the best players on Iowa’s defense.
Iowa will visit Purdue on Saturday at 12 p.m. ET.
