Tom Allen was one of the B1G coaches with his named tied to the USF job opening per Tampa Bay Times’ Matt Baker. Allen was not the only B1G coach that was mentioned, however.
USF fired Jeff Scott after the Bulls went 1-8 in nine games.
Former Nebraska HC Scott Frost, former Ohio State HC Urban Meyer, and Penn State DC Manny Diaz were also named as potential candidates. Deion Sanders, Tom Herman, and Todd Monken were some of the names featured as well.
Here’s Baker’s reasoning on including Allen on the list:
“No, we can’t envision Allen leaving a Big Ten job for the Bulls. But if things go south at Indiana — he’s 3-6 this season and 1-5 in the conference — maybe he’d go south to USF. He was the Bulls’ defensive coordinator in 2015 and started his coaching career in Hillsborough County at the now-defunct Christian high school, Temple Heights.”
Does it make sense for Allen to leave the Hoosiers? Or will there be a return to head coaching for either Frost, Meyer, or Diaz?
