An external investigator has been hired by the University of New Mexico to look into allegations of player mistreatment involving Lobos head football coach Bob Davie, according to the New Mexico Fishbowl.

Multiple sources have confirmed that New Mexico is investigating claims of players being mistreated. There is also an investigation into whether or not the student-athlete drug-testing policy has been compromised.

There haven’t been many details about the investigation, but New Mexico spokesperson Cinnamon Blair confirmed an investigation was underway.

“I can confirm there is an investigation underway in Athletics,” she said. “We are not going to comment on the details or the individuals involved until the investigation is complete.”

Davie is in his sixth season at New Mexico, posting a 28-37 record during the time. The Lobos are coming off back-to-back winning seasons in 2015 and 2016 and have started the 2017 campaign at 1-1.

Prior to taking over at New Mexico, Davie spent five seasons at Notre Dame. From 1997 through 2001, Davie went 35-25 and reached three bowl games but the Irish finished 0-3 in postseason appearances.

New Mexico plays Boise State on Thursday at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN.
