Diante Vines is keeping things positive. The Iowa wide receiver is looking to contribute more after coming back from a broken wrist during fall camp.

Vines’ snap count has increased dramatically recently. He went from zero to 50 last week against Purdue. His perseverance extends through himself and his family.

“I just don’t want to let my mother down, I don’t want to let myself down. I know how much work I put into all this stuff,” Vines explained when asked about his perseverance. “If I can just get back up and keep going, I’m gonna keep going every single time. My mom has just done so much for me and I know that one day I want to be able to make it to the big leagues and make sure she never works again.”

Overall, Vines has 5 receptions for 46 yards this season. The Connecticut native caught 2 passes for 19 yards against the Boilermakers in Week 10. Vines did not record any statistics in 2021 and redshirted during the 2020 season.

Could he have more of an impact moving forward? The Hawkeyes are currently battling for bowl eligibility with a 5-4 record. They have won two straight games with a home matchup against Wisconsin on Saturday.

Vines could help an Iowa offense that has been inconsistent this season. The Hawkeyes scored just 16 points prior to their two recent wins in which they scored a combined 57 points. A strong finish to the season with more of a role from Vines could change the narrative.
