CJ Stroud’s passing game was hampered by weather conditions as the Buckeyes took on Northwestern on Saturday.
The weather had an impact on the game at Ryan Field with 40 mph+ wind gusts and heavy rain limiting pass attempts. Stroud was just 10-for-26 passing for only 76 yards, and the Buckeyes relied heavily on Stroud’s rushing skills to win out 21-7 over the Wildcats. The QB ran the ball himself for 79 yards on 6 attempts.
No one should be surprised that the QB can turn on the jets, at least according to the QB himself. Speaking to the press after practice on Wednesday, Stroud said that running is something he actually does a lot.
“It’s probably surprising to everybody else, but I run a lot at practice. It’s one of those situations where I get so used to keeping my eyes down the field, so the weather situation this past week forced me to make my reads a little quicker.”- @CJ7STROUD https://t.co/rnAub5nwH8 pic.twitter.com/GUldcQj5Zk

Although Stroud can run, he’s been much more effective as a passer, throwing for 2,453 yards and 29 touchdowns this season. According to the QB, there’s no plan to change what has worked for the Buckeyes so far. Talking about this weekend’s matchup with Indiana, Stroud stated “I think this is a week for us to get our groove back throwing the ball and to be effective in the run game some more.”
Ohio State will take on Indiana this Saturday in Ohio Stadium.
