Chris Holtmann compares Bruce Thornton to former Ohio State hoops standout after win over Charleston Southern

Chris Holtmann sees familiar energy in Ohio State Buckeye freshman point guard Bruce Thornton that he hasn’t seen in a while.
On Thursday night following the 82-56 victory over Charleston Southern for the Buckeyes, Holtmann weighed in on Thornton’s performance and how it compares to a former Buckeye, CJ Walker.
“Bruce Thornton really is the consummate point guard,” said Holtmann. “He’s really different than the other point guards we’ve had here, except maybe CJ Walker.”
If you’re Thornton that is certainly a huge compliment. Thornton, who is only a freshman, is already making moves. With only 2 games under his belt, Thornton has a total of 6 assists, is 4-for-4 on free throws, and 3-for-7 on field goals.
There’s certainly lots of potential in the young point guard and maybe he can be on Walker’s level soon.
Walker declared for the NBA Draft in 2021, eliminating the option to return to the court for the Buckeyes, and is now playing professionally for German basketball club Phoenix Hagen.
The Buckeyes will be back at home on Nov. 16 at 7 p.m. ET against Eastern Illinois.
