Payne Durham is making a statement for the Boilermakers as Purdue takes on Illinois on Saturday.
The TE has been a bright spot for the Boilermakers in an otherwise disappointing 5-4 season so far. Earlier this year, Durham tied with Jim Beirne for 2nd-most TDs as a tight end in Purdue history with a stellar one-hand grab in the end zone against Wisconsin. Durham has 411 yards on 41 catches, in addition to his 4 TDs this season, averaging 10 yards per catch.
Durham’s athleticism was on full display Saturday, as the TE battled down the field to gain big yardage for the Boilermakers. On a quick, short pass from Aidan O’Connell, Durham grabbed the ball, turning his sights upfield. The 6-foot-5 TE took a leap over a jumble of defenders in his way, only to take a big hit 5 yards later. But even the hit couldn’t keep Durham down, as he bounced up and kept his footing to race down the sideline for more yards.
