Jim Harbaugh confirmed quarterback Cade McNamara underwent successful surgery last week. As a result, it is unlikely McNamara will see the field again in 2022.

McNamara entered the season as the returning starter for Michigan after leading the Wolverines to the B1G Championship and a trip to the College Football Playoff. Unfortunately, this season did not go as planned.

McNamara and JJ McCarthy underwent a QB battle that last through the first few games of the season. McCarthy ultimately won the job with McNamara slotted as the backup.

McNamara was eventually injured in the game against UConn and has not returned to action since. Hopefully, his rehab is able to go off without a hitch.

Last season, McNamara completed 64.2% of his passes for 2,576 yards, 15 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. He also led the Wolverines to their first win over Ohio State since 2011 on their way to the B1G Championship.

In the win over Nebraska, Davis Warren was the first QB off the bench for Michigan. Warren completed 2-of-3 passes for 19 yards in the blowout victory.

We’ll see if Warren remains the backup for the remainder of the season, but there’s no doubt McCarthy is the leader of the offense.
