Wilton Speight’s critics aren’t going away, but neither his Jim Harbaugh’s support for his starting quarterback.

Speight posted some good numbers in Michigan’s 29-13 win over Air Force on Saturday, completing 14-of-23 passes for 169 yards. But the quarterback’s red zone numbers continue to be a concern. He completed just one-of-seven pass attempts in the red zone for -1 yard. On the year, Speight has completed just one-of-13 passes while the Wolverines are in scoring position.

Those numbers don’t seem to faze Harbaugh, though. He continues to stand behind Speight as the team’s quarterback.

“He’s quarterbacking the seventh-ranked team in the country, 3-0 record,” Harbaugh said post game. “He’s quarterbacking the winningest program in all of football, the history of it. So it’s good to be Wilton Speight.”

Speight has completed 42-of-77 passes for 571 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions, but both picks came against Florida in the season opener.

At this stage in the season, it seems like Speight is going to have to do something egregious to lose his starting job.
