Mark Whipple is dealing with an injured foot and hopes Nebraska’s quarterback role is the least concern for the team this weekend.
During a Wednesday afternoon press conference, Whipple added how he is gearing up for Saturday’s showdown against Wisconsin. With more interest around the chances of seeing quarterback Casey Thompson potentially starting on Saturday after dealing with an elbow injury, Whipple provided his thoughts on the situation.
“A lot more (encouraged),” he said of Thompson’s chances to play this week. “He’s more important than I am. He’s practiced some. Unfortunately, Chubba (Purdy) is out and Logan (Smothers) has had some reps. And we’ll go from there.”

The Cornhuskers’ have struggled in the quarterback department lately. Chubba Purdy is out for the season with a high-ankle sprain, backup Logan Smothers has also been utilized, and then walk-on Jarrett Synek could also be an option.
It’s a tough road for the Huskers on offense but it’s an assuring and encouraging road following Whipple’s update on Thompson.
For Nebraska’s final home game of the season, it will host the Badgers on Saturday at noon ET.
