Iowa received some bad news on Sunday, as running back James Butler will miss at least the next four weeks with an elbow/arm injury, according to head coach Kirk Ferentz.

Butler suffered the injury in Iowa’s game against North Texas on Saturday.

Ferentz said the running back would likely be sidelined through the bye week, which comes the week of Oct. 14 for the Hawkeyes.

“I think James will be out through the bye week,” Ferentz said per  Iowa’s official website. “It will be a couple weeks before we get him back. I think everybody else has an opportunity to be ready by midweek if not sooner. We’ll know more in a day or two, but I feel optimistic right now.”

Butler had 16 carries for 74 yards against North Texas prior to the injury. Through the first three weeks of the season, the Nevada transfer has racked up 158 yards on 36 carries.

The loss is significant for the Hawkeyes, who host Penn State this Saturday.
