Jake Moody was spotless when it mattered most. Despite trailing for much of the second half against Illinois, Michigan battled back and relied on Moody’s leg to get the job done.

Entering the 4th quarter down 17-10, the Wolverines would use Moody to kick 3 field goals in the period. That included a kick with just over 3 minutes remaining to make it 17-16.

That call by Jim Harbaugh proved to be the right one. The Wolverine defense would get a stop and put the ball back in the hands of JJ McCarthy and the offense. He responded, getting Moody well in range for one more kick.

With 9 seconds left in the game, Moody was perfect from 35 yards out to make it 19-17. That score would hold up, keeping Michigan in the College Football Playoff picture at 11-0.

Now, everything will hinge on next week’s game against Ohio State. In the meantime, a lot of focus will be on the status of Blake Corum who was injured and played sparingly after halftime.
