Jake Moody drilled a game-winning field goal to keep Michigan’s perfect season alive.
It was a rocky game for the Wolverines as they trailed for much of the second half against Illinois. Michigan couldn’t find an offensive footing and entered the fourth quarter trailing 17-10. The Wolverines called on Moody to dig them out of a hole three different times in the 4th, including the game-winning FG. With only 9 seconds left in the game, Moody booted it perfectly through the uprights to top Illinois 19-17.
Asked after that game what was going through his head, the senior kicker was concise:
“Not much, just put it through the uprights,” said Moody who remained humble while giving credit to those that surround him. “I got trust in all my guys up front, I’ve got a great snapper, great holders, they make it easy for me. And shout out to (JJ McCarthy) for getting me in position to make the kick.”
Moody has been impressive this season for Penn State, scoring 109 points, which is 1st in college football. The kicker also holds the No. 1 spot with his 100 extra point completion percentage.
Now, everything turns to The Game next weekend against Ohio State. While the Wolverines will need Moody’s leg, Michigan would like to add a few more TDs in the process.
