Jim Leonhard expected to be named full-time HC at Wisconsin, per report

Jim Leonhard has done his part in righting the ship in Madison. In what proved to be a tumultuous week for Wisconsin while dealing with the death of former teammate Devin Chandler, the Badgers stuck together and pulled off a comeback win over Nebraska.

With the win, Wisconsin is now bowl eligible with 6 wins. Beyond that, Leonhard has secured a winning record in the regular season, improving to 4-2 since taking the lead after the firing of Paul Chryst.

After the game, multiple Badgers continued to campaign for Leonhard to receive the full-time job. It looks like the players are about to get their wish.

Following Saturday’s game against Nebraska, Wisconsin officially listed the application link for the head coaching position. It is also expected that Leonhard will be the person eventually named to the job.

According to Jeff Potrykus with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, two sources “with knowledge of the coaching search” said that Leonhard will take over the program. It is also noteworthy that Wisconsin waited until the team hit bowl eligibility before posting the job application window.

With the application window remaining open for 7 days, it is possible Leonhard could be announced shortly after the regular-season finale against Minnesota if he is indeed the guy to get the job. Then again, there’s nothing like a final boost to your status with a season-ending win over your rival to reclaim The Axe.
