Joel Klatt claims growing ‘distrust’ from fans surrounding College Football Playoff rankings process

Joel Klatt isn’t a fan of the recent College Football Playoff standings. Are you?

On the latest edition of his podcast, Klatt said that the current CFP model that determines the top 4 programs is flawed. Despite struggle wins from Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan and TCU in Week 12, plus a less-than-stellar 13-10 win by LSU over Arkansas in Week 11, the committee elected to leave the status untouched entering rivalry week.

Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan and TCU remained in the top 4 while LSU moved up 1 spot following Tennesse’s loss to South Carolina. USC, which currently has the best odd to represent the Pac-12 as a 1-loss team, only moved up to No. 6 despite beating crosstown rival UCLA in the Rose Bowl Saturday evening.

“Nobody trusts what’s going on,” Klatt said. “That’s kind of what happens here.

“When you show there is not a rhyme or reason, people start to distrust the process. There are a lot of people, you might be one of them, that distrust the process for the College Football Playoff. And candidly, I can’t tell you you’re wrong.”

The committee indirectly could be waiting another week before chaos ensues in the top 4 prior to conference championship weekend. Ohio State, which mounted a late comeback on the road against Maryland, will play host to Michigan Saturday at noon. The winner will advance to the B1G Championship while the loser will need absolute madness to unfold to make the Playoff come New Year’s Eve.

The winner of “The Game” is projected to be a heavy favorite in the B1G title game over the winner of the B1G West. Despite 4 teams sitting at 11-0, no program has guaranteed its spot in the CFP entering Rivalry Weekend.
