Contract number for potential Luke Fickell deal at Wisconsin revealed, per report

Wisconsin is prepared to pay millions for its next head coach.
According to reports, the Badgers are finalizing a deal with Cincinnati head coach Luke Fickell that could be worth up to $6 million a year.

While that number certainly sounds massive, Fickell’s pay would still trail behind Ohio State’s Ryan Day, Michigan State’s Mel Tucker, and Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh. Day signed a new contract earlier this year worth $9.5 million. Tucker will also pull in $9.5 million a season after a contract extension last November. Harbaugh sits in the third position salary-wise in the B1G, hauling in over $7 million each year.
If Fickell signs a contract of $6 million, it would make him the fourth highest-paid coach in the B1G, ahead of veterans like Kirk Ferentz and Jeff Brohm, who led Purdue to a division championship this year. A regents meeting at Wisconsin has been announced for Sunday, and many expect Fickell’s deal to become formalized at that time.
