Kerry Coombs has reportedly been named interim head coach for Cincinnati following reports that Luke Fickell will be hired as Wisconsin’s new head coach.

Coombs, a former defensive coordinator for Ohio State, served as the special teams coordinator and defensive backs coach for the Bearcats this season.

Coombs has never been a head coach at the collegiate level but has been an assistant at the collegiate level since 2007. He was the defensive coordinator at Ohio State for just two years in 2020 and 2021.

Coombs has a long history with the Bearcats with his first stint coming from 2007 to 2011. He was brought back to the Bearcats at the beginning of the season. Cincinnati missed out on its conference championship, but it will play in a bowl game later this year.

The reports of Luke Fickell’s hiring at Wisconsin come following the conclusion of the regular season. If reports are true, Fickell will be hired over Jim Leonhard, who many believed would take over as head coach after serving on an interim basis.
