The finalists for the Broyles Award have been released. A pair of assistants from the B1G were featured on the list.
Michigan’s Jesse Minter and Illinois’ Ryan Walters were the B1G representatives for the award. The award annually goes out to the coach that is considered to be the best assistant in all of college football.
Walters had led a dominant Illinois defense this season in Champaign. Minter joined Michigan this season after spending time with Vanderbilt last season. Walters is in his second season in the role.
Congratulations to the 2022 Broyles Award Finalists! The next stop is the Award Ceremony on 12/6 in Little Rock!

Without Walters or Minter on the staff at Illinois or Michigan, their teams would not be the same. Both the assistant coaches had played huge roles in the success of their programs since they’ve been there.
The winner of the award will be announced on Dec. 6 in Little Rock, Arkansas.
Here are the other assistants who are up for the award:
- Alex Golesh, OC, Tennessee
- Todd Monken, OC, Georgia
- Garrett Riley, OC, TCU
Grant Bricker covers the B1G for Saturday Tradition. His previous stops include the Williamson Homepage and Nashville Post.
