Iowa has lost a quarterback to the transfer portal. 247Sports’ David Eickholt reported the news on Tuesday.

Alex Padilla is reportedly heading to the portal. Padilla last played in the regular season finale against Nebraska after starting QB Spencer Petras left the game with an injury. Padilla was a former 3-star recruit from the 2019 class per the 247Sports Composite.

Padilla filled in for Petras after the Iowa starting QB missed some extended time due to injury towards the end of last season as well. While at Iowa, Padilla played in 11 games. Padilla had 821 yards passing with 3 touchdowns and 4 interceptions during his time in Iowa City.

The Hawkeyes will have a new face at QB next season with Petras graduating. It could benefit them to look in the transfer portal to find their next starting quarterback. Stay tuned more any more updates about transfer news out of Iowa City.

It’ll be interesting to see where Padilla ends up next.
